 Overview: These pilgrimages to sacred Buddhist sites are led by experienced Western Dharma teachers. It follows the advice of Ven. Robina Courtin and Lama Zopa Rinpoche concerning pilgrimage practices and includes daily Dharma teachings and group meditation sessions. A local, English–speaking guide, accompanies and assists pilgrims throughout the journey.

RETREAT ON THE EIGHT VERSES

Retreat on the Eight Verses at Lama Atisha sacred site in Borobudur, Indonesia

Borobudur is the largest stupa complex in the world and the site where Lama Atisha received bodhicitta instructions from Lama Serlingpa. Follow in the footsteps of the great Atisha and his guru Serlingpa, who visited Borobudur, on the island of Java, in the tenth century. It was buried for 500 years, rediscovered in the 19th century, and finally restored with the support of UNESCO in 1970s. A magnificent square structure, 118 meters each side at its base, its many levels covered by thousands of stone carved stupas and statues and relief images of the buddhas. Daily there will be teachings, meditations, and time at the stupa, a few minutes' walk from the comfortable Manohara Hotel.

Cost (excludes airfare): $1,200 per person includes: four nights shared room accommodation at the Manohara Hotel (right next to the stupa), roundtrip transfers (from the airport at Yogyakarta on the Indonesia island of Java), a donation to Liberation Prison Project, all meals, and entry fees to the stupa.

 Leader for Dharma Journeys Nepal & India:
Ven. Robina Courtin.

Venerable Robina Courtin was ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun at Kopan Monastery, Nepal in 1978. She has since worked for Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche's Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition, as editorial director of Wisdom Publications and later as editor of the FPMT magazine, Mandala.

Since 1987 Ven. Robina has taught Buddhist courses and retreats at FPMT centers worldwide. An award-winning film by her nephew Amiel Courtin- Wilson, "Chasing Buddha" documents her life and work at Kentucky State Prison. She is one of the subjects of Vicki Mackenzie's "Why Buddhism?,"
and a film by Christine Lundberg, "On the Road Home."

She is a popular and engaging pilgrimage leader.



 Leader for 2015 Dharma Journeys Burma: Ven. Amy Miller. Venerable Amy Miller first encountered Tibetan Buddhism in 1987 at Kopan Monastery in Nepal. She has devoted time to meditation retreats, study, teaching, and Buddhist center management throughout the world. She has traveled extensively as a pilgrimage leader for the Institute of Noetic Science and our Dharma Journeys.

Ven. Amy completed a solitary seven-month retreat at California's Vajrapani Institute, which she directed from 1995-2004 and was ordained as a Buddhist nun in June 2000 by the great Tibetan master, Ven. Choden Rinpoche. Teaching extensively since 1992, her style emphasizes a practical approach integrating Buddhist philosophy into everyday life.

Ven. Amy is the co-author of "Buddhism in a Nutshell" (a publication of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition - FPMT), and a contributor to FPMT's online course, "Living in the Path."
